Faces you will not unsee
56 photographs from our events around Whangārei. Every one of them is a volunteer who gave up a weekend.
Some of these were taken in the bush at dusk, which is where most of the character photography happens - it is free, it is genuinely creepy, and the light does half the work. The rest are from the walk-throughs, the Victorian gothic ball, horror quiz nights at Roost, and A Hearty Halloween at McKay Stadium.
The costumes and props are made by the crew. The pig mask, the cage helmet and the conjuring witch are all people who have day jobs in Whangārei and spend their weekends frightening children for charity. Click any photograph to see it full size.
A note on the daytime event: A Hearty Halloween is deliberately split. The trick or treat day is built for small children, with bouncy castles, face painting and volunteers handing out lollies. The genuinely frightening material - the blacked-out maze, the walk-through - is kept separate and clearly signposted, so nobody meets the pig mask by accident.
